The DUNU DN242 is a bold acoustic experiment that transcends traditional driver boundaries. Featuring two dynamic drivers, four balanced armature drivers, and two micro planar drivers — eight units in total, three transducer types, and five independent crossover pathways — it delivers an obsessive pursuit of detail. Every frequency band, from subbass to ultra-highs, is controlled with surgical precision.
Sophisticated Dual-System 5-Way Crossover
The DN242 employs a complex physical plus electronic dual-crossover system. Subbass, midbass, mids, highs, and ultra-highs each have their own isolated acoustic channels and electronic crossover control. This ensures highly consistent phase response and seamless frequency transitions, eliminating unnatural dips or peaks.
Deep, Textured Bass with Perfect Transparency
Two completely independent high-performance dynamic drivers, each with its own acoustic chamber, eliminate mutual interference. The 10mm subwoofer delivers deep, authoritative extension down to 5Hz — not exaggerated thump, but a solid foundation like an undercurrent. The 8mm mid-bass driver removes muddiness, revealing details like drum overtones and electric bass articulation. Together, they achieve a textbook example of layered lowfrequency reproduction.
Rich, Natural Midrange and High Frequencies
Four custom Knowles balanced armature drivers take charge of mids and highs. Vocals are positioned naturally, dense but not harsh — male voices retain warmth, female voices capture delicate breaths, and sibilance is perfectly controlled. Instruments shine: violin harmonics are brilliant without sharpness, piano mid-notes are crisp, and saxophone timbre is preserved with full body. High resolution is unlocked without ever feeling cold or analytical.
Airy Ultra-High Frequencies
Two custom micro planar drivers handle the extreme highs. Instead of artificial brightness, they deliver a light, airy extension — triangle overtones decay naturally, cymbal shimmer lingers, and even the subtle ambience of recordings is captured. This ultra-high performance never overpowers but adds a layer of transparency that dramatically opens up the soundstage.
Precision 3D-Printed Acoustic Chambers
In collaboration with HeyGears, an industry-leading 3D printing specialist, the DN242’s complex acoustic chambers are realized with microscopic precision, ensuring every driver operates exactly as designed.
High-Quality Cables & Q-Lock Mini System
The Standard Edition includes a high-purity silver-plated single-crystal copper Litz cable for warm, smooth sound. These correspond to the two visual variants: crimson red Limited Edition (888 units) and black Standard Edition — acoustically identical, differing only in color, cable, and packaging.Both variants use a recessed 0.78 2-pin connector (MMCX optional). The Q-Lock Mini interchangeable plug system includes 3.5mm single-ended and 4.4mm balanced plugs.
